Guardiola We are better than last season

first_imgManchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes his side has improved since winning the Premier League title last season.Despite losing two games and trailing four points behind leaders Liverpool so far in the Premier League this season, Guardiola insists his current City has improved since their record-breaking season last season when they won the title with 100 points.“In little details, we are better than last season, which is normal because we have more time together,” Guardiola told Sky Sports.“Our process, our build-ups, our high pressing we can use different movements, we have more alternatives to defend into attack and we are more solid when we defend deeper.”Manchester United delayed City’s title celebrations last season with a shock 3-2 victory at the Etihad, but Jose Mourinho’s side lost 1-0 to West Brom a week later and handed their bitter rivals the title.“Even in games when you are winning 2-0 or 3-0 with 20 minutes left to play I am still not comfortable in saying it’s already done,” he said, recalling United’s incredible comeback from 2-0 down to 3-2 win.Premier LeaguePremier League Betting: Match-day 5 Stuart Heath – September 14, 2019 Going into the Premier League’s match-day five with a gap already beginning to form at the top of the league. We will take a…“But in that game, the way we reacted after a tough week with a Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool in the middle and then United, the way we played the first 10-15 minutes in that game, said to me that we are going to win the Premier League.“Because even if we lost that, the way we reacted and showed what we were, that moment I felt we were going to win the title.“It was our consistency. Of course, we dropped points, that happens, but after that, we were always there, which was the most remarkable thing and what I give the most importance.“Winning cups or the Champions League that’s six or seven games where you have to be good, but in the Premier League it can be every three days, which is why it’s the title I like the most.”last_img read more

Hearst Developing EReader

first_imgHearst Interactive Media acquired a stake in E Ink about seven years ago.Earlier this month, Amazon launched its upgraded Kindle 2.0 reader. Plastic Logic, a Mountain View, California-based company, says it plans to launch a new electronic reading device in 2010 and has partnered with digital vendor Zinio to provide magazine content. Becoming the first American magazine publisher to directly tap into the evolving electronic reader market, Hearst Corp. is said to be developing its own wireless device, featuring a large-format screen that’s conducive to reading magazines. Citing “industry insiders,” Fortune senior writer Michael Copeland today wrote that the mega magazine publisher has been developing the device and underlying technology and is looking to launch the product sometime this year. While Hearst executives declined to talk to Fortune about its plans, interactive media head Ken Bronfin said Hearst is “keenly interested” in e-readers and expects the devices will “be a big part of our future.”According to Fortune, plans to sell the device to publishers and take a cut of the revenue from selling digital subscriptions. Hearst would leave it up to publishers to develop their own branding and payment models.Hearst has experimented with the technology before. Last fall, Esquire’s 75th anniversary October issue featured the industry’s first flexible electronic “paper” cover, which allowed words and images to scroll across it. The cover was developed in part by E Ink, the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based electronic paper display technologies firm that developed the electronic paper display technology for Amazon’s Kindle and the Sony Reader. last_img read more

Reading Cooperative Bank Raises Employee Starting Wage To 15

first_img(NOTE: Reading Cooperative Bank has two locations in Wilmington — 230 Lowell Street and 352 Middlesex Avenue.)READING, MA — Reading Cooperative Bank (RCB) recently announced that it would be increasing the minimum wage for all Bank employees to $15 per hour. The decision was announced at RCB’s year-end employee meeting, where President & CEO Julie Thurlow spoke to the company about the Board of Directors’ plan to help full-and-part-time employees struggling with the rising cost of living in Massachusetts.“We just felt like it was the right thing to do,” Thurlow responded when asked about the move. “We understand that one size does not fit all, and we would never presume that every company can afford to take such measures. The Bank still strongly believes that matters such as this should remain in the hands of individuals, not government.”Thurlow went on to elaborate about the plight of small businesses in the area: “As much as we strive to support workers who just want to make a living wage, we are certainly cognizant of the limitations that our local small business owners face daily and respect the decisions they have to make.”(NOTE: The above press release is from Reading Cooperative Bank.)Like Wilmington Apple on Facebook. Flood rescue stepped up as more rain batters Indias Kerala

first_imgRescuers evacuate people from a flooded area to a safer place in Aluva in the southern state of Kerala, India, on 18 August 2018. ReutersRescuers in helicopters and boats fought through renewed torrential rain Saturday to reach stranded villages in India’s Kerala state as the toll from the worst monsoon floods in a century rose above 320 dead.Dozens of military and coastguard helicopters took troops to high risk areas seeking people trapped on the roofs of submerged buildings. Indian prime minister Narendra Modi described the crisis as “devastating” after visiting Kerala.Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced late Friday that the monsoon death toll had dramatically risen to 324.Media reports said at least another 14 bodies were found Saturday and state officials said they expected the number to rise as more landslides were reported and dam levels remained dangerously high. No new official toll was given however. With power and communication lines down, thousands remained trapped in towns and villages cut off by the floods amid growing shortages of food and water.Helicopters have been dropping emergency food and water supplies across Kerala, while special trains carrying drinking water and rice have been sent to the state. With rain alerts hanging over much of the state, dozens of dam and reservoir gates across the state have had to be opened as the waters reached danger levels, inundating many villages downstream.Particular fears have been raised for Chengannur, about 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram, which has been cut off for four days.Troops and military boats have been sent to the town and media reports said bodies had been found. The state government did not immediately give an updated toll early Saturday. An aerial view shows partially submerged houses at a flooded area in the southern state of Kerala, India, on 17 August 2018. Reuters- Helicopter plea -Saji Cherian, who represents Chengannur in the Kerala assembly, said he feared there were at least 50 dead in the town and broke down in tears as he pleaded for more help on Asianet TV late Friday.“Please give us a helicopter. There is no other solution, people have to be airlifted,” he said.“We did what we can with fishing boats we procured using our political clout. But we can’t do more.”With no end in sight to the rains, people all over the state of 33 million have made panic-stricken appeals on social media for help, saying they cannot make contact with rescue services. Some say they are trapped inside temples and hospitals as well as submerged homes.Authorities have warned that rains and strong winds are predicted for many parts of Kerala on Saturday and Sunday.Prime minister Modi arrived in Kerala on Friday night and held meetings with state leaders and went on a brief air inspection tour.“I took stock of the situation arising in the wake of the devastating floods across the state,” Modi said in a Twitter statement. An Indian woman rescued by the Indian navy personnel rests with her grandchildren at the Naval relief camp in Kochi, in the Indian state of Kerala on 18 August 2018. Chinese Streamer iQIYI Squeezed by Changing Content Context

first_imgThe company described the result as “another solid quarter of performance” and said that its strategy remains unchanged. “With the fast development of China’s entertainment industry and the approaching 5G commercialization, we are confident in our growth prospects and look forward to capturing the enormous opportunities ahead,” said Gong Yu, iQIYI founder and CEO.The company acknowledged “some recent challenges facing our industry” without elaborating on regulatory changes that made production more onerous, and the slowing rate of China’s economic growth.iQIYI itself paid $732 million for content in the quarter, an increase of 7%. But its sales of content to third parties dropped by 4%, due to delayed content deliveriesOn a conference call with analysts, Gong said that iQIYI had generally benefited from the film and TV production slowdown that began in the second half of 2018. “We have regained bargaining power and are more in control of our content costs,” he said, referring specifically to a reduction of talent costs, following the Fan Bingbing tax scandal. He said that where talent costs might previously have accounted for RMB 80-120 million per show, that has now fallen back to RMB40-50 million. CFO Wang Xiaodong said that content costs were likely to remain within the guidance that the company has previously provided, albeit at the upper end.Advertising revenues dropped by 16% “mainly due to the challenging macroeconomic environment in China, the delay of certain content launches and slower-than-expected recovery of (its) in-feed advertising.”Baidu, which has lost some of its tech sector dominance, made operating profits of RMB233 million ($33 million) in the April to June period. Baidu’s quarterly revenue grew to RMB26.3 billion ($3.84 billion), a 1% increase on last year.Indicative prices after normal stock trading hours showed iQIYI ADR shares slumping by 9% to $16.40, compared with a Tuesday official close of $18.08.
