Donegal. (North West Newspix)Local county councillor Liam Doherty has now revealed this is the SECOND such incident involving the same street lights at the Green.A local man, Paul McHugh, revealed how his car was damaged when one of the 15 ft street lights came toppling down on his car. It smashed the back windscreen and caused other damage to the rear of his BMW car just minutes after he got out of it to go to some nearby shops. Now Cllr Doherty has told Donegal Daily that another street light in the same area came crashing down four years ago.Cllr Doherty has now contacted Donegal County Council and asked them to examine the remaining three lamp-posts to see if they may be vulnerable.“Approximately four years ago another street light went missing and people thought it had been stolen. “But what actually happened was the it too had fallen and I took it to my property and later told Gardai what had happened.Colr Liam Doherty at the site of where a lamp post fell onto a parked car in Convoy. (North West Newspix)“I have contacted the engineer from Donegal County Council with regard to carrying out an examination of the remaining street lights in the area.“If there is a fault in any of them then they will have to be replaced before there is an accident,” he said. The Sinn Fein county councillor agreed that it was pure luck that someone was not hurt during the latest incident on Saturday last.“I was asked to come top the scene of this incident just after it happened and it could have been much more serious. “There is a local man who sells potatoes from a stall close to where this happened and children and young mothers often pass by this area.“It could have caused a very serious incident if the street light had come down while they were passing.“I will keep in touch with the council to see what exactly can be done,” he said.FALLING STREET LIGHT WAS SECOND SUCH INCIDENT IN SAME VILLAGE IN RECENT YEARS was last modified: August 19th, 2014 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:accidentCllr Liam DohertyconvoyPaul McHughstreet lightlast_img
