Why, Perez? ‘Rafa Benitez hasn’t won a FIFTH of what Carlo Ancelotti has’

first_imgRay Wilkins has expressed his amazement at Real Madrid president Florentino Perez’s decision to replace Carlo Ancelotti with Rafael Benitez.Ancelotti was shown the door on Monday little more than a year after he became only the second manager in history to win three European Cups when he guided Real to Champions League glory.Former Liverpool boss Benitez, who is currently at Napoli, is set to be his successor at the Bernabeu, but Wilkins insists the Spaniard is not of the same standard. The former Chelsea number two, who worked alongside Ancelotti during his time in charge at Stamford Bridge, told talkSPORT: “We talk about toughest jobs in world football and I think that is the toughest.“But Benitez hasn’t won a fifth of what Carlo Ancelotti has won, in terms of top honours.“You are talking about Ancelotti leaving and bringing in someone who hasn’t done a great deal with Napoli either, so it is a pretty strange world we are living in!”last_img
