Ace Instruments Ace Holes win second Crystal Cup in three years

first_imgCHARLIE LAKE, B.C. – After winning the Crystal Cup in 2014 the Ace Instruments Ace Holes came away with a second Crystal Cup championship yesterday afternoon. After taking down the defending champion Griffins in the semi finals the Ace Holes defeated Iron Hide in the final.Looking back at the tournament Crystal Cup president Neil Evans said after a couple of years of frigid temperatures, this year’s above seasonal conditions helped draw out more people than previous editions.“This is hands down our best year yet for sure. Weather was a huge factor in it. We had lots of people out on site, families, kids, everyone, and of course the 40 teams. We had loads and loads of people out and it was just magical to watch,” he said.- Advertisement -Despite getting most of the recognition when it comes to the tournament Evans said it would not be possible to put everything on year after year if not for the volunteers.“I know I’m kind of the face for the Crystal Cup but all of these guys have been here until 3 a.m. or 4 a.m every night this week. You’ve got to give credit to these guys for making it happen and being out here and being this dedicated to the event,” he said.Going forward Evans hopes the tournament will grow in popularity to the point where the weekend becomes a festival with various events for everyone to take in.Advertisement “What I would like to personally see it evolve into would be something like the Mukluk Rendezvous back in the day. Having our own festival out here on Charlie Lake not just with hockey but inviting other things out here such as ice fishing, such as ski-doo poker rallies, stuff like that I think would be really awesome. Even sled dog races, you name it,” he said. The score in the final between the Ace Holes and Iron Hide was 15-13.last_img
