Struggling Widow Needs Help for Ailing Child

first_imgRuth B. Kubay, a widow believed to be in her 50s, is calling on humanitarian organizations and philanthropists to rescue her 13-year old son, David Kpana, from his ailment. He is suffering from a very serious condition of enlarged scrotom.David is the second among three children of Ruth,  whose husband died last year.  This widow fries doughnuts to sell in order to keep the half family going through life.It is not an easy thing for a woman without a husband in the home to go through this struggle, and not many men will be willing to cater for children who are not theirs.Such is the situation with Ruth as she now goes around friends and relatives to ask for daily needs in addition to the doughnuts she fries to sell and get income from to help her children.Ruth, who yesterday walked into the Daily Observer office at McDonald Street, told our reporter the problem started on David last year November. He was immediately taken to the Redemption Hospital where the doctor said it was a sign of kidney failure.David has an enlarged  scrotum with swollen legs, thus making him to be seen as malnourished.The Medical report from the S.D. Cooper Hospital indicates that as a result of his condition, David complains of weakness, oliguria and low grade fever.The struggling widow indicated they were told by the doctor to find means and take the child abroad for surgery because the problem cannot be solved in Liberia considering the broken health system.“The doctor prescribed some medicines to buy, but I don’t have money as a single parent.  The medicine again is not to cure the sickness, but just to reduce the swelling until we can be blessed to take this child from here.  I am calling on the President of Liberia and other good people to come to my aid,” she said.She was advised to find a solution to the problem as quickly as possible; for delay will worsen the situation.David’s medical report,  dated September 19, which copy is in possession of this newspaper, says his physical examination reveals a state of ANASAKA.His assessment, according to the report, shows he has Nephrotic syndrome with a nephritic picture R/o end stage kidney, further recommending that he needs an urgent attention of a nephrologist outside this country.Ruth and her children live in Zubah Town opposite the playground at Du Port Road, and she can be contacted on cell number 0886 133 7   795.Anyone wishing to come to the aid of this child in distress may also contact the Daily Observer newspaper at 0886 812-888, 077 472-772 or 0886 868-535.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img
