The state of Kansas was one of the last states to adopt the national standard of 5K i.e. 3.2 miles. Before it was a 4K race for girls. Treadway finished with a 23.29 time for 19th place. Thus she has set the standard for WHS and is in the history book.On a much rather cool September Saturday morning, Wellington cross country runners finished with 13 personal records and 24 medalists. The Crusader runners are not at full strength with some battling nagging injuries.“In other sports like football, you can tape up an injury and go after it,” said Charles Wallace, Wellington head cross country coach. “But because cross country is such a repetitive sport and you are using the same muscles, if you’re injured we tell them to take it slow because those injuries will be nagging you all season.”In the high school ranks, there were three Wellington medalists. Besides Tredway, Mackinze Tracy medalled with a 13th finish in the girls JV two mile race. Chance Hamel placed eighth in the boys JV race.In the Wellington Middle School ranks, eighth grade girls Avery Barker placed 16th and McKenna Jones placed 26th for medals. The eighth grade boys saw Tyler Brown finish sixth for Wellington’s highest finish of the day (except for sixth grade). Quinn McCue also medalled by finishing 25th.The seventh grade boys saw two medalists: Wyatt Eldridge, who finished 23rd and Colin Green who finished 28th. Everyone of the Wellington sixth graders medaled with Lexie Scheufler finishing first in the girls and R.J. Clift placing first for the boys.Wichita West was the winning varsity boys team while the Valley Center girls won the varsity event. The full Wellington results are below.
