Dodgers NLCS roster: Julio Urías replaces Scott Alexander

first_img Cody Bellinger homer gives Dodgers their first walkoff win of season MILWAUKEE — Julio Urías replaced Scott Alexander as the Dodgers swapped one left-handed pitcher for another on their 25-man roster for the National League Championship Series.Urías, 22, made just three appearances for the Dodgers in the regular season after returning from the disabled list. He underwent anterior capsule surgery on his left shoulder in June 2017 and did not begin pitching minor league rehabilitation games until July 30.Although he recovered in time to demonstrate the same command, break, and fastball velocity that once made him a blue-chip prospect, Urías never pitched in back-to-back games during the regular season. He traveled with the club to Atlanta and faced live hitters between games, but was not included on the Dodgers’ 25-man NL Division Series roster. In four regular-season innings, Urías allowed one hit, did not walk a batter and struck out six. While rehabbing in the minor leagues, Urías never appeared in a game on fewer than three days’ rest. Now, Urías joins a bullpen that features two other lefties (Alex Wood and Caleb Ferguson), four right-handers (Pedro Baez, Dylan Floro, Ryan Madson, Kenta Maeda) and closer Kenley Jansen.Game 1 between the Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers begins today at 5 p.m. PT.Alexander threw six pitches in a scoreless inning in Game 3 of the NLDS against the Braves on Sunday. It was his only appearance in the series. Including that game, Alexander hasn’t allowed a run in 14 of his last 15 appearances.Unlike Urías, Alexander regularly pitched on consecutive days during the regular season. He led the Dodgers in appearances (73) while posting a 3.68 earned-run average.Manager Dave Roberts announced the rotation order of his four starting pitchers Thursday: Clayton Kershaw, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Walker Buehler and Rich Hill.
