Huawei Mate 20 X 5G confirmed to launch, may come with smaller battery

first_imgEarlier this week, China Unicom happened to reveal official renders and retail packaging of the Mate 20 X 5G. Now, Huawei has confirmed that a 5G version of last year’s Mate 20 X is indeed in the works, but there is no word yet on its exact date of launch. The Mate 20 X was launched last year along with the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. It is the largest device in the Mate 20 series, touting a massive phablet-like 7.2-inch display and a large 5,000mAh battery, among other things. The renders revealed by telecom operator China Unicorn suggest the design and specs of the Mate 20 X 5G will be similar to the non-5G version. It is expected to sport the same 7.2-inch OLED display with a waterdrop notch, the same Kirin 980 SoC and Leica triple camera setup as the regular Mate 20 X. The biggest difference, of course, is that the upcoming Mate 20 X will come with a 5G chipset, which will most likely be Huawei’s Balong 5000 modem.Reportedly, another change in the specs is that the Mate 20 X 5G will come with a smaller 4,200mAh battery. It will be interesting to see how much this would compromise the battery life considering the phone is expected to come with the same phablet-sized display. However, Huawei might make up for it by offering 40W SuperCharge fast charging support for the upcoming device. The Mate 20 X 5G will not be the first Huawei phone to support 5G as that title belongs to the Huawei Mate X. To recall, the Mate X is Huawei’s first commercial foldable smartphone that is due to launch in select markets later this year. The Mate X has been confirmed to launch in India as well, although an exact launch date is yet to be revealed.advertisementChina Unicom revealed in a post on Weibo that a total of 15 5G phones can be expected to launch this year from 12 brands that include Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and more. OnePlus and HMD Global have already confirmed in the past that they will launch 5G phones in 2019. OnePlus may just be the next brand as it gears up to launch the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro in May.ALSO READ | Huawei P30 Pro review: A camera powerhouse that is also a great smartphonelast_img read more
